QUANG NGAI (VNS) — The central province of Quang Ngai is working on a plan to develop homestay services for tourists on Ly Son Island, renowned for its historical, cultural, and beautiful natural sites and friendly people.
The province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has sent people from 20 households there to the neighbouring province of Quang Nam to learn about the homestay model in Hoi An. Most of the 20 own traditional houses that are more than 200 years old.
Ly Son, which spreads over 9.9sq.km and has a population of more than 20,000, has many temples, cultural complexes, and beautiful natural sites.
Locals earn a living by fishing and farming. The island is known for its garlic, which is medium-sized, white, tasty, and preferred by many to other varieties.
The Government is determined to develop Ly Son into one of 41 national tourism sites. The island has attracted tourists since 2008.
Last year there were 36,620 visitors, a 30 per cent rise over 2013. The number is expected to rise to 40,2000 this year.
To reach the island, visitors have to take a 45-minute boat ride from Sa Ky Port in Binh Son District. — VNS
