Da Nang mountain resort to launch cable car service

The Ba Na Hills Mountain Resort in Da Nang will launch the funicular route – the first and the only one of its kind in Viet Nam – tomorrow.

This route will replace the shuttle bus route for tourists commuting through the mountainside routes.

The funicular, priced at a promotional rate of VND50,000 (US$2.4), includes two coaches each way and carries 40 passengers at a time. The route takes passengers up a 400m track at 5m per second around tourist sites including Linh Ung Pagoda, Le Jardin Garden and the old French villas.

The trams, which are designed like the vintage ones from Europe, can transport 1,600 passengers per hour to the top of the mountain, 1,500m above sea level.

Last year, the resort launched the new cable car route, adding four Guinness World records to its credit. In 2009, the mountain resort pressed into operation the first cable car route, setting two world records – the longest and highest non-stop cable car system. — VNS
