Tourism activities between Viet Nam and Japan are growing fast, said Ton That Hoa, General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association.

In the first three months of 2014, Japanese tourists to Viet Nam numbered 170,772, standing only after China (587,475) and the Republic of Korea (238,496).

Last year, around 80,000 Vietnamese travelled to Japan, especially in summertime.

More Vietnamese have visited the RoK and Japan than Southeast Asian countries. A large number of them chose Japan.

The number of Vietnamese booked tours to Japan during the Lunar New Year Festival and the cherry blossom season in the first three months of 2014 surged by 200% against the same period last year, said Nguyen Minh Man, Communication Director of Vietravel, one of Vietnamese leading travel agencies.

In Q1, 2014, the travel agency Saigontourist welcomed 58 cruise ships which brought over 20,000 foreign tourists to Viet Nam, of which 10% was Japanese.

Tourism activities between Viet Nam and the “land of rising sun” are expected to rocket in the coming time when Japan will waive visas for tourists from Viet Nam, Indonesia and the Philippines in May./.
