Can Tho skies fill with colour as kite-flyers come out to play

Kite-flying season has begun in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and good weather, with good winds and stable prices could make for crowded skies and good earnings for kite makers and sellers.

With some 200 family-made kites of differing sizes for sale, a woman named Nam, in Cai Rang District, reckons she has had more buyers than last year, but sellers are resisting the urge to raise prices, so she thinks everyone will have a fun season.

Big kites cost VND35,000-40,000, while smaller ones are from VND20,000-30,000 each.

The weather, and the relatively low prices, are attracting more flyers, with Hau River Park proving to be the most popular spot for novice and experienced kite flyers, who like the challenge of strong gusts coming off the river.

Hundreds come to fly, and hundreds more come to watch the colourful dance in the sky.
