The Japanese government is considering an initiative to grant visa exemption for citizens from Viet Nam, together with those from Indonesia, the Philippines, to make Japan a tourism-oriented country.
Japan wants to develop tourism into a spearhead industry in its economic growth revitalising strategy, aiming to attract approximately 20 million foreign visitors annually till 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Statistics show the total number of Thai and Malaysian visitors to Japan rose 61 percent to 630,000 after they were exempted from visas in June, 2013.
Meanwhile, those from Viet Nam, Indonesia, and the Philippines last year were 80,000, 140,000 and 110,000.
