The site depicts the Delta, which lies at the terminus of the namesake river as “a riot of vivid colors and flavors.”

Prices are cheap and the Delta boasts endless options for exploration by motorbike and boat, according to the list, which targets independent and frugal travelers.

Most of the Delta's locations attract few foreign tourists--the exception being the island of Phu Quoc, which has become renown for warm waters, shallow shores and clean, white sand beaches.

This year's Rough Guides list also included Kosovo for its open tourist sites and cheap rooms; the UK’s rugged Peak District; the Canary Islands which is now open to budget airline routes; Karnataka, India’s southwestern state; Northern Ireland where one can visit real-life castles; Portugal; Northwest China for its captivating scenery and cheap food; Oaxaca a coastal region in Mexico that's free of crowds; and Queens – the cheapest and most lively borough in New York City.
