Vietnam’s Noi Bai airport to close runway for repairs

Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi will have only one operating runway for four months starting this August as the other runway will be closed for repairs, news website VnExpress reported Thursday.
At present, many cracks can be seen on the 1A runway, which was built in 1961 and has exceeded its designed life expectancy of 20 years, according to the report.
One of the country’s key airports, Noi Bai can receive 25 flights per hour, a capacity that it hopes to maintain even with just one runway operating, according to the report.
However, airlines will have to adjust their flight timetables.
Noi Bai was designed to serve 12 million passengers per year, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam’s website.
